Indianapolis Colts give RB Deon Jackson $ 45,000 signing bonus at UDFA
The Indianapolis Colts have reportedly signed an undrafted rookie free agent with Deon Jackson, and the signing bonus he received shows just how much priority he is.
While we thought USC UDFA wide receiver Tyler Vaughns was top priority after receiving a $ 22,000 signing bonus from the Colts, that’s less than half of what they signed with Jackson after the draft.

According to reporter Aaron Wilson, the Colts give Jackson a signing bonus of $ 45,000.
Running back Duke Deon Jackson received a $ 45,000 signing bonus from the Indianapolis Colts as a priority free agent, the highest signing bonus for an undrafted rookie this year, according to a league source. . Rushed for 2,267 career yards, 18 touchdowns, 61 catches, 534 yards and four touchdowns

Despite Jonathan Taylor leading the backfield for the foreseeable future, the Colts appear to have a lot of interest in Jackson.
The Duke product is certainly intriguing considering its size and speed. At 5’11 ” and 218 pounds, Jackson ran a 4.42 on his pro day, which was good for an elite speed rating and helped him register an RAS of 8.94.
It was potentially thought that the Colts would draft a running back on Day 3 given that Nyheim Hines, Marlon Mack and Jordan Wilkins are all set to become free agents in 2022, with Hines the only candidate for the extension.
So the Colts could look to keep Jackson on the practice squad throughout the 2021 season, developing his vision and pass blocking, to potentially call him as a depth item in 2022.
Regardless, the Colts’ financial commitment to Jackson shows a prospect they greatly appreciate even though they haven’t spent a draft pick on him.
