Virtualization for Developers - Microsoft's Virtualization Strategy
Presented by Darren Baker
Sogeti Infrastructure Solutions
Sogeti USA

Virtualization is a word being associated with everything from server consolidation, to Green IT initiatives. During this session we will talk about several of Microsoft’s Virtualization initiatives for the desktop. Focusing on Microsoft Application Virtualization (SoftGrid), we will discuss how virtualization can be used to solve application compatibility issues, prevent application version conflicts and give the developer/administrator more control over the environment. Via virtualization, we will demonstrate how applications are virtualized, deployed, and administered;  plus, how to look into the XML code and troubleshoot when things go wrong.  Darren will also provide an early look into MEDV - Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization, formerly Kidaro.

IndyGiveCamp Charity Challenge Weekend 2009
IndyNDA is committed to giving back to our local community in many ways. The monthly meetings, special interest groups, IndyCodeCamp, and our hosting (with IndyPASS) of the annual IndyTechFest are examples of events and initiatives that are focused on professional developers. We also give food and toys to charitable organizations through the generosity of our members at special events throughout the year.

Now, we have an opportunity to give to charities through your development activities.  Paul Hacker is the Team Foundation Server SIG Leader, and is leading the charge to establish IndyGiveCamp Charity Challenge Weekend 2009The event will take place in Indianapolis on January 23-25, 2009. From Friday at 3:00pm until Sunday at 5:00pm, teams of developers will create applications or websites for local charities.

A little history: GiveCamp started out as a stand-alone volunteer effort called the
We Are Microsoft Charity Challenge Weekend that allowed developers, designers, DBAs and web development enthusiasts to donate their time and talent developing new web applications for local-area Dallas charities.

The event was held over a 3 day period in January, 2008 and attracted 82 developers, 18 charities and 15 volunteers from all over Dallas, including 17 MVPs and local influencers.  It touched not only the local community but also struck a chord with developers far and wide. The event was so impactful that .NET developer communities are organizing similar events in many cities, including Indianapolis.

The IndyGiveCamp website will provide details for development teams and charities, and will be fully functional by September 2nd.
